Peacock nesting question

We recently found a pea egg. It was on the top of our garage door. When we rolled the door down the egg rolled off. So the question I have is will they always lay high? We have some spots where we could put large boards with nesting material on them. Should we do that?

You can try it. I have big doghouses and barrels with my birds. Every once in awhile one with lay in those, but most of the time mine lay in the corner of the barn.

Most here will tell you their birds pick the spot. A few will lay and sit on eggs in a "nesting box".

So if you have a lot of space how do you ever find them? We have 40 acres and several outbuildings. They were chilling out in our lean-to yesterday so we had a look around to see if there were any eggs but no. Tricky little things.

If you free range you will only ever find a small percentage of them if any at all. If you have dense acreage, I guarantee you the peahens will find the thick stuff.

We used to free range a bunch of birds but now we catch and pen them during breeding season.
