A lone peacock has shown up in our wooded area of Southwest Michigan. If I decide to take care of him, what do I need to know. Food, shelter, etc. Can he survive like pheasants do? I am concerned about him meeting the locals here.... Coyotes, owls, raccoons. He currently is in an area of our neighbor's house where the furnace exhausts to the outside. What do you think I should do? I have called a wildlife rescue vet but they don't come to me. I can bring the bird to them. If that is a better option, how do you pick one up and avoid the claws and beak?

I read the links and talked to some folks with pea fowl. I think I will see if he stays or moves on. I was told that there is a group of wild pea fowl about 15 miles from me. And, that some had been seen as close as 5 miles from me. So perhaps this guy was left behind. Who knows. He is protected somewhat from west and north winds.

Thanks to everyone for the links. I have forwarded this website to friends raising chickens in their backyard in Oak Park, IL.
