So I got this peacock from my Father's friend. The Peacock is just a year old, I've had him for 5 weeks now. I was told to leave him in the coop until spring so he won't run away. I've had peacocks before but all got picked off one by one... Also how long does it take to gain their trust. I don't have a photo of the peacock, so I just picked one of my chicken

I have a Peahen and I raised her, and she stays far away from me. My other Peafowl come running to me when I call them.
There is no set time if or when peafowl come to trust you. Give him treats that he has to come near you to get and don't reach for him at all. Only time will tell.

What picked off your previous peafowl? Curious. Dogs, cats, and hawks are afraid of my peafowl and run or fly at their aggressiveness. My peacock is the lord of the manor in my yard. Top dog over the turkeys, ducks chickens, and even my ten dogs. I've seen the peahens attack hawks that have dived on smaller birds in the yard. Funny, I've also seen the peafowl fly in terror of a falling leaf!

Thank you! I'm normally good ta gaining trust with animals. I've got a Tom turkey who took just 3 weeks to trust me and now thinks I'm his girlfriend 🤣🤣🤣

Fox's and mink's. That's all I see and chase them off every now an than.

You make friends with them the same way you do with anyone, spend time with them. I use raw peanuts to entice them to come close then they start to eat from my hand. Hold the nut between thumb and forefinger like momma would offer it. Do not imprint a cock, only hens as the cock 'may' become aggressive during the mating season if he has no fear of humans. Not always but don't chance to ruin a special relationship. Hens are different, they will become a bitch to any and all other birds and stay your friend and teach their young to not be afraid of you. I have many peas that will eat from my hand and a couple of cocks that will set on my arm but don't do this unless you have a plan where you can isolate him if he gets too bossy and starts flogging your company.
for the most part, mine eat from my hand but they do not like to be touched, that is your goal.

I use to have peacocks that would take naps with me. The people who had this peacock could do anything to him. So hopefully soon I can makes friends

There is no guarantee he will ever become tame regardless of treats or attention. I have some birds that are constantly underfoot and begging (I make no effort to tame them beyond getting them used to my presence so they don't kick up and break their necks.) and others that keep their distance. I don't want them to become to tame because super tame birds that get out or free range often get stolen. I would also never free range a bird that you're not prepared to lose. The fact that your last bunch got picked off suggests you either have a predator or they're wandering off into the woods.
