I want to get peacocks, but we only have an acre. I know they are loud, but will they bother the neighbors?

If you have neighbors near by you it can be an issue. You could always ask your neighbors if they wouldn't mind if you get a pair. I've heard them at the zoo and the males are very loud, not sure about the females. Have you looked into pheasants? not sure if they are noisy, but that might be something to look into?

I planned on a coop and a run. Each lot has an acre Nd we are in the county so there are no laws against it, but I am only concerned about one neighbor. Do they Hollar at night or is it just during the day?

Thank you!!

They can call at all hours of the day. At night if they are spooked they will call. Be sure to check with your neighbors since they are in close proximity to you. In regards to pheasants, that is a good suggestion that was made and I second it. There are some very noisy and loud species that compare to peafowl but others are for the most part quiet. You can PM me if you have any questions on pheasants.

Hello!

So, they will holler day and night, most vigorously during the breeding season. It's a sound you will come to love!
But you'll definitely want to talk to the neighbors first so you don't have problems later.

Becareful, because noise complaints can happen weather you are allow to have them or not. Speak with those neighbors and see how they feel. If not contact the above posted who has suggestions on pheasants. If you haven't looked into pheasants there are some beautiful ones out there that are equally and eye catcher to peacocks. Peacocks are very loud and in the summer more so, which could bother neighbors enjoying the outside and hearing them scream nonstop.

If they don't mind a rooster I would think they wouldn't mind have a pair of penned peafowl. My penned peafowl only call during the day when I let them out and very little. My wild male calls just as much as my rooster. Sometimes though you can get a neighbor that isn't willing to work anything out and can be not so smart.

Thanks!! No one has complained about our rooster who calls all day long! So, I can give it a try!!

I would like to get pheasant also! I love my few chickens I have!
