All my pens have grass growing in them now. Depend on your area. my breeder pens are 12 X 36 with 5 to 7 birds each...heck looks like i need to mow the weeds down..

thanks thats very helpful i was wondering because the weeds were going crazy in the new cages and as soon as i moved the birds into them it seemed like it was dirt within the next week.

We have had lots of rain, and lots of warm days. So great year for grass here. Some years they keep the mostly bare. Now i house them all in a large flight pen after breeding season, they will get the ground bare in there before long.

If planting grass it would need a good start, before putting birds in.

Ok i understand now, beautiful bird in the pic is that a Peach WE, and by the way do you still have hens laying? Seems like mine stopped a little early this year, about two weeks ago.

I didn't get near as many eggs this year as i did last year. Only seven eggs out of my spalding pen and i have three hens in there

I don't raise the greens. The main colors i do raise are peach, bronze, and charcoal. The pattern i like best is the silver pied.

Peach I have in all the patterns. (W.E., Pied, BS, Silver Pied, Barred wing, also spalding)

Charcoal try to get high % spalding ,to improve the problems with them. Also getting them in silver pied

Bronze adding more pattern in them.
