Well sad sad news. My one pea chick was found dead on the couch when I came home Friday evening  We were babysitting my DD's dog fr the weekend and he got in the brooder I guess. He could have taken a chick but noooo he went for the pea! So no pictures.
I need advice too I guess so far out of 6 eggs only that one chick hatched. I must be doing something wrong. Help please. Any advice is welcome.

Sorry for your loss.

I just hatched my first 2 Peachicks this week, from parents that I thought were just pure IBs...

...but umm NOT, lol. I don't mind tho! My very first 2 Pea eggs gave me 2 pretty little Peachicks

I have 4 more of their eggs going into lock-down Wed of next week, 3 more the week after that, 4 more the week after that, and 1 more fresh egg in storage so far... weekly anxiety attacks!
100% hatch.. WOW :) what was your temp... humidity...turning scedual? the breeder of my eggs was thrilled with a 80% hatch :) so you must have done something right :)

that is how it ALWAYS is! I have one pea chick and many many many chicks.... and I just know if even one dies it will be the pea.... so I am doing everything humanly possible! I have them in a pen, in a pen, in a dog crate to protect against predation (even though we only loose maybe a chick or two a year to it.... it WILL be the pea

a stray dog just got in the yard last week and killed my fave blue spangled hamburg chick (only hatched three this year and it was the nicest.....of course!) and it was with 25 other chicks... just had to it

Im so sorry for your loss ....

Quote: I'm incubating my Pea eggs in a new Dickey incubator (with an auto egg turner)... the eggs are set in Turkey eggs trays, pointy end down
hide.gif
. It tilts the egg trays really far every 2 hours. I keep the humidity somewhat low... it hovers around 35-38% average, temp stays steady at 99.6 degrees. I moved them to my QGF hatcher once one egg had pipped externally and I could see the other was internally pipped when I candled it.... 75-80%% RH, 98.5ish degrees. I mist the eggs lightly a few times a day (same way I've been incubating and hatching 60+ Turkey poults this season). I got lucky with the 2 out of 2 on my first hatch tho.

I set 4 eggs for my 2nd hatch, and only 3 are in lock-down now... lost #4 about 4 days ago. It was a quitter
sad.png
I opened it and it was another beautiful Pied, fully formed, sigh. I'm not positive this is the reason it quit but it seemed to have a leg tangled in a major vein/blood vessel. Anyway for the other 3 eggs... the 1st egg is pipped, 2nd egg is internally pipped and squirming like crazy, 3rd egg I see no movement in so it may have quit too but I locked it down anyway. I'll be happy, (lucky) if I get 2 more healthy Peachicks, but 4 would have made me a lot happier.

With so few eggs to work and such a short laying season, every loss is a major downer
hit.gif
I have 1 more setting of 4 eggs, and 2 more settings of 3 eggs to go, all set 7-8 days apart... and they all look great (well except the last 3 I just set last night that need to cook 5 days or so before I'll know lol). I'm not sure how many more eggs my Ol Biddy Peahen will lay for me, and she doesn't want my two 2yr old Peahens anywhere near her boytoy, so they may not even lay this season... I wish they would, even if they won't produce Pied babies for me like the Ol Biddy has been.

it will be day 7 for me tonight.... when I candled I still had 5 clears
barnie.gif
and 8 starting... a few from each of the breeders pens... so that is good
celebrate.gif
but I hope a few more have started and I just cannot tell yet, my light is not great and the shells are pretty thick.... but I know they like to quit so I was hoping for better fertility... as they were not shipped so I assume clear fresh eggs just are not fertile????

Any air cell?

FWIW, I just checked one at day five and there is an air cell.
