Damsel's eggs are due to hatch around July 10th. It has been raining on her recently but she is being a good girl and staying on those eggs.
Yesterday I took Peep outside, oh and I guess I need to come up with a good name for Peep soon since I now really do think Peep is a peacock because his flight feathers are rust colored, speckled, and Peep has long legs.
Anyways yesterday was Peep's first time in long grass.
Peep really likes eating flowers...
Then he met the adults for the first time. Ice and Pip wouldn't even eat their treats they were so interested in looking at Peep. Ice was calm around Peep and slightly curious but Pip went crazy. She tried to get really close to Peep and so Peep displayed at both of the peahens trying to look threatening then Peep got scared and ran under me! It was really funny to watch. Alto just displays whenever he sees Peep and Dragon doesn't care. The peafowl seem less afraid to get really close to me when I have Peep with me. Even the shy ones got pretty close when I was holding Peep. I showed Peep to his mom Damsel who was on her nest, and she immediately puffed up and started hissing so I told Peep his mom was busy.
Early today it rained, but I took Peep to the pen later when it was all dry. Today Pip displayed at Peep. Pip was kinda close to Peep and she lowered her head like she wanted Peep to preen her, so he walked closer to her and she pecked him! Peep ran off scared and I grabbed him and told him I wouldn't let that happen again. Then Pip followed us to the tin shed where I set Peep down to look around. Pip would pick up random objects that were obviously not food, which is unlike her, and act like she was going to eat them except while she fumbled with them in her beak she made a low his sort of noise. Then I had Peep back in my hand and Pip got closer. I put out my free hand and she pecked my finger making a low hiss which was so unlike her, she almost never gets close to my hand or even peck me. She gave me a look like I shouldn't have a peachick because I am not a peahen and she looked mad or something. Maybe she is just mad that when she finally got a clutch and was setting on her eggs all of them broke. I think she wants a peachick. I just hope that if Damsel has peachicks they will be okay with Ice and especially Pip. I swear I think Pip kicked Peep when I was not looking. Now Peep shakes whenever he sees her...So does our dog.
