Peafowl Web Site Design for Beginners

@frenchblackcopper , says I need a web site to sell my peas. Many of you have sites and I am wondering how someone with limited abilities in web sites and the maintenance thereof, like me, should go about making one.

I use Weebly and Facebook. Facebook is fairly easy for a business page. Especially since it's on facebook it can be found using a search bar and there are lots of people that use facebook now days.

KsKingBee. First task is to choose a domain name and purchase it. it helps if your domain has a lot to do with your websites content. Therefore "Peafowl" or "Peacocks" should be included in your domain name. You can go to Godaddy.com and purchase your domain name there. Since your from Kansas that may help your selection of a subject and location all in your domain name.

Next is to find a "host" for your website. Many "hosts" offers easy to build website templates that requires no html knowledge at all,,,no coding is needed. Weebly has many advantages but the main thing with weebly is they lower the cost for hosting if you use their complete package which will have for instance,,www.kansasfowl.weebly.com for your url.The word "Weebly is automaticllyused in your domain name where as if you buy your domain anywhere else and then transfer it to your host the domain name stays "as is",,for instance www.kansasfowl.com,,,you would choose the name as "Kansasfowl" and then choose a .com,,.net..or several other choices for the catagory you want,,.com is the most obvious since you will be conducting sales thru the site.

Weebly will give you 6?pages I think with their lowest cost package. Any more pages you want will cost more. Weebly is very user friendly. They have many templates available to choose from and many are "drag and drop",,simple as typing here in BYC and adding a picture with the exception being the templates are set up for text and photos in areas of the page that sometimes cannot be changed.

Now that you have chosen and purchased a domain name and found a host for the site and also a combination host-template supplier..you can now sit back and think how you want the website to be. You will need to think of how many pages you want and what content will be on each page.Weebly did offer you the choice to mettatag words and phrases on your pages. Mettatagging words and phrases on your website tells the "search bots" what you con tent of your website is all about. This is how when anyone simply types in a word in their browser that page after page of website links comes up. This is because the tagged words on those sites matches what you typed into your browser. It used to be where repeating the same words throughout the website would get you first search rankings but the algorythyms has changed and repitition of the same word will not necessarily increase your page rank on a simple search.

You also need to be able to "page index" each individual page so that content although is part of your website,,it's content is unique. Search bots loves rich, new content and will frequent your site and rank higher if new updates are added every few weeks or so. A blog is very helpful because content can be aded every day and blog bots crawl your site more frequently than just a search bot will.

We have built several websites our dogs over the years mainly because over time, they become outdated. They now offer SEO services as well which will give you a report every month on the most used phrases typed in browsers that coincide with the subject of your website. You can then change your text to include those words to help get a higher placing on a direct search.

Pictures are a big help. Having ablog that will encourage others to post or follow and keep coming back to your site also helps keep your rank higher. You should be able to direct anyone to your website by doing these things mentioned even if the person doing to search does NOT know the exact domain name of your website. Call me if you like, I can help you if you have some time.

Sorry to barge in here but... @frenchblackcopper or @MinxFox (or anyone!) can you tell me if there's some simple way to make the Image Database easier to find in a search?
Most of the people who look at the Database now are being referred either from BYC or, surprisingly, from the French peafowl forum http://paons-faisans.forumactif.org/
I do know that you can add keywords to individual pages but there are a LOT of pages on the website...I will keep working on this if it's the best approach...

I think the reason for this is because the database is more of a looking for "what does a .... look like?" Or someone would have to type in keywords like: peafowl, image, database. Though there's more keywords because of the descriptions given to each photo. Also if more of us put a web link on our business pages or facebook business pages it could spread popularity. I'm part of a few peafowl groups on facebook and share the link along with my facebook business web page. If you don't mind me doing that.

You need to purchase a domain name and add key words to that ;) i built my first website with freewebs in 2007 and within a month i ended up purchasing a domain name for 90 dollars a year which put all my artwork brought up front, also when you have a free website you are limited on your bandwhich which can litter you site with adds, the more folks view your images the higher your bandwhich needs to be, i found free webs to be very easy to use, i learned things with it as i needed them, i ended up closing my site as they change the floormat in 2011 so i could only upload jpeg images and that wiped out most of my artwork images as they were uploaded in png which made for nicer copies of my works, the only way to fix it was to change all images to Jpeg and there were 1000's so i quit the site and never rebuilt it.

New 2 pfowl,,what Zaz says above. Your database first needs a name then you will need to tag certain words, such as each variety of peas. Every page should have tagged words even if they are the same as a few other pages otherwise the search bots has no way of knowing whats inside those pages and won't know they are there. The name of the database itself should be tagged as a phrase itself since peafowl pictures are what the database is all about.

I don't think KsKingBee that building your own website is that difficult nowdays. the days of paying some company or someone a large amount of cash to build and update your website monthly-weekly are over with. You will have your own e-mail address for the website traffic. You can get SSL certificates and have Pay Pal or credit card payments available on your website. It depends on how much you want to put into it,is what you will get out of it.

It is easy if i can do it anyone can because reading comprehension is my all time weakness , the visuals and short instructions made it where i could grasp things and the little ligt in my head came on and i could understand, this was dealing with freewebs i have never used any other but assume they are pretty much the same

KskingBee,,next time your viewing a webpage right click on your mouse which will open a small box with options,,highlite "view source" and this will show you what words are mettatagged on that page as well as the coding used. To get ranked high on an internet search,,type in the search word or phrase in your browser,,such as "peafowl for sale",,now you will get page after page of websites or links that has "peafowl for sale" as a phrase that has been tagged. Pay close attention to the top 5 websites that comes up. Right click on the pages of these websites and write down the words they have tagged, normally the word "meta" will be before the words that are mettatagged for the search bots to index to. This list of words used on the top sites that comes up will give you an idea to target your audience for specific ways people search for information they want. There is also another way to know the top search phrases used for a particular subject, they use this tool when anyone wants to buy "pay per click" ads,,,I will need some time to think again where this can be found,,,maybe after the wine and turkey are telling me it's time to stop stuffing myself today.

You have a facebook find out what the local sales groups are in your area, this is how i sell mine once your name gets out folks will contact you without even advertising them, it has worked out wonderful for me, there are many local sites on my area not groups but buying and selling groups , i never made a website for peas and don't feel a need as i do not ship at this time

Here is some i have used all local and you can even make your own folks will find you, once you join a group it will be eaiser to find other groups threw folks that contact you as you can look at their group list and see where they are shopping
