Peafowl Weights - Preliminary

Weights are based on what I believe to be healthy stock raised in brooders or kept in aviaries


Gonna start with 4 month old chicks because I weighed several yesterday and will modify this as I go through my notes. If anyone has data that shows these number to be off, please do let me know.

So I made an interesting discovery last night... several weeks ago I found three chicken chicks that couldn't keep up with their momma and the other chicks, so I brought them inside and have been raising them in a brooder. Last night one of the outside chicks couldn't get up in the tree with the momma and other chicks, so I brought it inside for the night. I haven't weighed them yet, but the size difference and feather growth difference between the two sets is amazing. Will post pictures later.

You find differences in peafowl as well. It is common for me to have some chicks be way behind the growth curve but catch up by 8-12 months. If you use an average of say 10 chicks in your chart you should have some pretty good base data.

Had a bit of a wind storm blow through here last night and had a horrible feeling a few of the aviaries might not hold up, so I had to relocate 14 mature peas last night. In doing so, I noticed that some of the boys are *huge*. Will try to get weights on all of them when I put them back in the aviaries. Pretty sure all the girls are in the 3-4 kg range, but two of the boys felt like they were close to 7 kg!

Well, I was wrong, lol... weighed the biggest and he's only 6 kg (13.23 pounds), not 7 kg like I thought.

When they don't like being held they can feel like a chunk. Mine usually lighten their load once I get my arms around them.
