Actually, it's not. It only treats a few bacteria, whereas Baytril will treat many. If you want to treat mycoplasma gallisepticum (mg), mycoplasma synoviae (MS), or necrotic enteritis (NE) from clostridium perfringens, then tylosin (Tylan) could be used.

x2 to what Kathy said AND with Tylan, be aware that serious muscle damage can occur at injection sites.

Many of these sinus infections are E. coli and/or pseudomonas, and Tylan won't treat either. Baytril won't treat all E. coli and all pseudomonas, but it is about the only thing we can try without going to a vet.

If you have a good relationship with your vet, see if you can buy a bottle of Baytril 100 (the injectable kind). It's expensive, but it lasts quite awhile. It can be diluted with distilled water and given orally. I use a clean (sterile) needle to withdraw the Baytril from the bottle and then I put it into another container to dilute it. Then I measure that out and dose the bird.

If you have a GOOD vet, even a non-avian one, you may be able to get help with the sinus infection treatment. Some vets are quite good at it. If you read up on it, getting the pus out (or the hardened pus) can be a bit challenging.

And the best antibiotic is Zactran @ 0.60ml per adult bird, good for five days and can be repeated if necessary after four days.
