Peafowl

Thanks to everyone. I'm still learning to navigate this forum. I'm not sure I've answered and who I haven't. I'll try everyone.

It takes some practice to get used to the site...you should have been here a few months ago when they rolled out a new format, lol. Most all of us were stumbling around in the dark :lau

I'll say. I'm confused. I recently lost a peahen to egg binding. I've read and read and studied and I think I may not have been feeding enough fruits and veggies. It was horrible. I gave her Epsom salt baths to no avail. I was prbly too late in treating her. I don't know.

I've never raised peafowl (just a chicken person here) but I do know it always stinks to lose an animal you care about.

I know with chickens, it can be hard to identify exactly what is wrong and figure out treatment. That's where BYC can be really helpful...there aren't a lot of experiences with birds that someone on here hasn't already encountered.

Don't beat yourself up about it (hard, I know) just try to learn from the experience and use it to make you a better bird keeper. :hugs

Welcome to BYC! Sorry about your hen, I know how you feel. :hugs According to my vet, dehydration is the leading cause of egg binding. Dd your hen have a stuck shelled egg, or was it shell-less? Was it hot when you lost her? Did she have access to oyster shell and layer feed?
