Thank you very much!!! I, too, was thinking it is a boy... but wasn't sure lately with some of those feathers lacking the barring. Is there anything behavioral I could watch for? Like males 'strutting' like a turkey because our little one does that sometimes. I have really appreciated this group - just reading different forums i have learned so much!

It has a bit of spaulding in it and that will throw the best guess's off. I wouldn't be surprised if it is a hen. The wide barring on the back and the lacing on the breast say hen to me. Watch for the barring to go away, but if it has multiple bars on one feather it could be a cockbird.

ETA; ...If it has multiple bars on one OF THE BACK FEATHERS...
