Dear Buddies,

My Peahen with one leg in function[the other leg does not support her body , she came to me in this way 7 months back] had a 5 eggs clutch last months . which were put under a hen and successfully hatched .Now after one month another cycle started , after having 4 eggs , which are removed and have been put under hen too, the peahen sits in her nest most of the time , while there is no egg and in past she used to spend very short time for laying egg,why is she behaving like this?.

Thanks,

Hafeez.

Sounds like she is broody. One of my hens sat on 2 eggs for 3 weeks, I candled them and found them to be infertile, so I removed them. She continued to sit as if the eggs were still there, I felt bad so I took a couple out of my incubator and gave them to her. Hopefully they will hatch in the next day or two.

My OH-SO broody cameo bs, hatched some eggs last night. As I stated in the above post her eggs were all clears this year, perhaps her age(19) or she just didn't care for the young unproven male she was penned with

. Last week I pulled her clear eggs and then decided I felt lazy and didn't really want the stress of peeling out another batch of chicks that should hatch themselves.... but don't. So.... I took my last 8 eggs out of the bator and stuck them next to Ms. "I will hatch anything" when I checked 10 minutes later they were all out of sight under her.

Very colorful batch of chicks, 1 IB, 1 BS, 2 Whites, 1 Pied, and I think 1 Silver Pied. Luv my CBS hen!

What a beautiful sight! I can't wait until my little chicks are grown and raising their own. I'm glad she got the chance to have some babies!
