Peahen with swollen jaw?

Hey everyone! I feel like I’ve been having a lot of trouble with my peafowl this year! Anyway one of my hens has a swollen face/jaw? and I’m not sure what’s causing it. I’ll attach pics below. She was fine yesterday then today she looks like this and she’s shaking her head and scratching her face quite a bit. Can anyone tell me what this might be and how to treat it? Thank you!

Also I feel like I should add in the pic where I have her mouth open in the very corner the brown stuff is dirt from where she’s been swinging her head around.

What happens if you pick that crud out?

I haven’t tried to pick it out. When I was looking at her I could see there was dirt but didn’t mess with it further than that. Is that something I should wear gloves for?

It is likely the onset of a sinus infection. Give her 1.0ml of Tylan 100 SQ.

I can’t get my hands on tylan. I do have some powdered antibiotics though do you have a recommendation for one of those?

Powered Tylosin would work.

Ok I started her on doxy-tyl (I think that’s what it’s called) yesterday because that’s all I had. Today I grabbed her and noticed like a scab at the corner of her mouth and when I put pressure on it you could tell there is infection in it. I brought her inside and cleaned out as much as I could but I feel like there’s still more in there that wouldn’t come out. What do I do now?

Putting pressure on the swelling to expel the pus is all you need to do other than continuing the antibiotics.

Ok I wasn’t sure if peafowl got a “kernel” like chickens do. It did seem like the pus was harder than say human pus and it looked like there was still more to come out but she was pretty miserable and I had her bleeding so I decided to stop for tonight. I’ll give it another go tomorrow just to be sure I got it all. Thank you!
