Ok,, here is my side in this,, I am allergic to walnuts, coconut, shell fish, and most perfumes to include the heavily scented deodorants and aftershaves,, those make it very hard for me to breath. The food allergies are easy, I know what I can and can't eat and no ingredient list, I don't even try it. Now the perfume part gets interesting in a classroom full of 6th graders. I send a note home and also during my first parent meeting I address it and ask them not to send their kids to school wearing heavily scented sprays, perfumes etc. Most parents are great, but then I get the one who hates all teachers and thinks this is their opportunity to make one miserable for the whole year. The first time the kid does their work in the office or library, the 2nd time they call home to be picked up to shower and return, the 3rd time their desk goes outside my portable door and that is where they work. Yes I knew I had allergies before I became a teacher, yes you knew your kid had allergies before you sent them to school. If I can go out of my way to accommodate all 20 something kids in my class, you can accommodate your child's 1 teacher.
