Peanut Butter for Chickens?

Sure, protein is always a good TREAT. Just don't make it the regular diet.

I make suet with peanut butter- I use lard or beef fat, add in bird seed, peanuts, peanut butter, grit, oats, wheat germ, whatever is handy- dried friuts, carrot peelings, etc. They love it- I hang it in a suet feeder and they entertain themselves for days!

Don't let it hang too long, and don't put it out in hot weather, it goes bad.
Straight PB is not so good, hard to swallow. Mix it some textured items for a better "chew".

My chickens and wild birds LOVE it!

Edited to add, my dogs take their pills much more willingly when they are swathed in PB, the crunchy kind.

My chickens love leftover PB+J sandwiches of my kids. I know there is a lot of sugar in it. But, they don't eat it everyday so I think they are OK. They can have a good treat occasionally.

Hey, great idea freezing the pb sandwiches. My birds love peanut butter. I usually mix it up with some corn meal, scratch etc. etc. and they just eat it up right away.

I cook up rice and then mix peanut, cashew, sunflower, or any others I have in the cupboard, put it in the microwave and they go crazy for it. Rice coated with warm hummy stuff.
