so for all the people who bait their homes with poison..how do you handle rotting bodies all over the place, in your walls etc...that just grosses me out more than the living critters.

Just wanted to share my experience with this. I put steel wool around a pipe under my sink and then duct taped tightly over it. They ate a hole through the bottom of my cabinet!!

I had a serious rat problem in the barn last year. I needed to put out poison, but with my precious puppy darlings, I had to be very VERY careful. I have 2 7 x 12 kennels that I use as breeder pens, to I took all the chickies out of one of them. I then put a small puppy cage inside the kennel, and put the Just One Bit in the cage, so it was double safe from the puppies. Those rats when thru a LOT of bait. It was pretty interesting (as interesting as killing rats can be). The first dead rats I would find were the full grown ones, then half grown ones, then smaller ones, then bitty ones. Then no more. Took about 10 days of solid baiting, but I bet I found over 50 dead ones, which doesnt even begin to mention the ones I didnt find. I havent seen any evidence of any this year, but if I do, Ill go right to Just One Bite.

Good stuff.

Had this problem in my out building, It was very unpleasant. However cleaning up the mess they were making was also gross so I am glad they are gone.

mice are so tiny I have never noticed any smells, rats I walk around pick them up and throw them into a burn barrel I do not use poison though just lye in the trails/runs

I didn't use poison for a long time because I wa worried about my barn cats and the outside dogs. I talked to several vets about it including some at the vet school level. They said the baits like Just One Bite have a low secondary kill rate....not zero, but low. I put it in locking bait boxes so there was no chance the chickens or cats and dogs could eat the poison. The vets all said the cats and dogs would have to eat a LOT of the dead rats to have any effects from the poison.

I have poison in my basement because of mice. There is no longer a problem with them because as soon as one comes into the basement and eats the poison, it is dead. As far as the smell and mess, the poison I use does not work immediately. They crawl back far into the from whence they came and die from dehydration. They literally dry away and wherever they end up I never see or smell them.

My dad kept piles and piles of wood along with all the other junk, it was a rat condo with an over crowding problem. Now we are cleaning out our garage/sheds (old falling down) but the neighbors one looks worse. I think we are going to resort to poison and hope we wipe them all out next door.

For every A my son got it school, I gave him a Rat Hunt. It involved sitting outside at night (winter and summer) with a pellet gun and a Q-Beam. A canteen full of soda and some cookies. We hunted for hours, laughing and telling stories and even getting a few rats or mice. He's forty five now and still tells his children and friends about it.
