My husband made an interesting observation this morning that had not occurred to me.
Peanut doesn't quack.

She's definitely a girl because she makes all the little squeaky sounds like the other hens do, but she's never full on quacked.
If anything she peeps still and my husband calls it squacking. LOL

I don't think her being "the runt", so to speak, has anything to do with it because she's now just as big as the other hens.
She was the last to hatch, 3 days behind the others, so for awhile she was significantly smaller but has now caught up.

She just doesn't quack.

Ever heard of a duck that just squeaks and peeps?

How old is Peanut?
She'll be 12 weeks old this Sunday.
All her hatch mates were quacking by 7-8 weeks old.
But not Peanut.

Named her Peanut because she was so much smaller than the others for the first 6 weeks after hatch.
Shes caught up now.

She might just not be vocal or feel a need to quack, perhaps. Or, maybe she's less dominant and doesn't want to stir up attention from her once bigger nest mates.

Could be.
I worried she'd make it to adulthood since she was hatched last, 3 days after the others and so much smaller.
It was so cute watching her try to keep up with the others.
Mama, Delilah, was so good about waiting for Peanut to catch up.

I dont care if she doesn't quack.
She's healthy, happy, and doing fine.

And the other 8 girls quack loud enough to make up for Peanut!
