Pebbles

I am a very new chicken lady (a few months) and my chickens do something odd. They pick up pebbles and put them in their water, food and even in rinds of vegetables I give them. Is this normal? I feel like they are "offerings" to the chicken gods or something.

That is odd! Do you actually see them pick them up and put them in there, or did you just come back to find the rind like this? Normally I would think they just kicked them into there accidentally, while scratching around, but if you've seen them carry the pebbles, that's completely new to me.

Odd, yes if they placed them there, my thought would be they were scratching in the rock for that just right size to eat. Tossing gravel around as they scratch,,,

Try putting the treat somewhere else where there are no pebbles and see if some appear later.
