Pecked In The Eyeball

LOL! I had a picture months ago of a hen on my step-daughters shoulder, and the hen was leaning down looking at her. I got a warning from people about eyes getting pecked so we hold them on our laps not on our shoulders now. My step-son had a mole on his neck that one of our hens sliced half off! LOL! It bled like nothing else! I have had my lip split from a chicken. I was bent over feeding them meal worms....CHICKEN CRACK! They got so excited they started jumping at me and one grabbed my lip! I had a fat lip for days! LOL! Now I stand straight up when I give treats....or toss them over the deck railing! BAHAHAHA Silly chickens!

but yea i didnt scold her, just learned my lesson... when getting close wear protection

No, never had my eye pecked. If one gets onto my shoulder, I won't look directly at it (for the sole reason of NOT getting eye-pecked). Having dealt with a lot of different animals over the years, I learned long ago to keep eyeballs out of direct reach at all times.

My DH had his tongue grabbed once, though! Our BR was roosting on his shoulder out in the yard and while he was talking to me, she reached around and pecked one of his teeth. It was pretty funny, and he feigned inidgnance and verbally (jokingly) chastised her. At the end of his "speech" to her regarding her manners, he stuck his tongue out at her. In less than a blink she had his tongue in her beak, yanked, and twisted (probably thought it was a giant worm!)!

Oh he jumped and I almost choked laughing. He tries to keep his mouth completely shut whenever she sits on his shoulder now.

:lau Serves him right! I'm dying :lau

LMBO! My sweet Turkey (Fred) who is only about 6 months old and whom I hand raised started looking right at my face while sitting next to me. I always look away when he does this but I still wasn't feeling good about it so I decided I would wear my glasses from now on. Anyway the next day he jumped up beside me and leaned in close. Then in the blink of an eye he snatched my glasses off. Man was he fast.
He follows me around like a dog and started wanting to cuddle and lay his head on my chest while I stroked him which I thought was so cute. But now all of a sudden His sweetheart Wilma layed her first egg and now he wants to attack me. Do you by any chance know why he would turn on me like Cujo? Fred and Wilma are the first Turkeys I ever had. I really don't want him displayed on my Thanksgiving table this year. Haha! Just kidding!

I have one girl that has been "eyeing" my eye for a while now. I watched a bird handler and she told me that gently blowing in the birds face will curb bad eye plucking habits,

I think chickens would eat us if they could. I think they see us as the providers of food and food if we were to fall down.

my leghorn fiddle faddle was just on my lap getting her pettins and she came in real close and pecked my eyeball, needless to say, OUCH. i dont hold a grudge though i love her, has this ever happened to anyone else? does she think my eyes are treats? i wont be gettin my face too close again unless i have a meal worm in my teeth

Yep. My sweet, cuddly buff orpington got me right in the center of my eye a couple of months ago. It scratched my cornea. Vision was blurry for a couple of days but it healed fast. 3-4 days it was fine.

DOH! I got suckered into replying to a zombie thread! 🧟‍♀️
