Pecking issue-What am I missing!

They have toys all over! Hanging and on the ground. They have a coop sized right for them and a nice run. Space shouldn't be the problem. Their protein level should be more than enough.

I have totally separated her from the flock and will leave her separated for a while before I put her back in. Mercy would be more than happy to have her take over the bottom of the pecking order!

As for the wounds she has created, none are deep, just bloody. No one else was bothering them and the wounded are doing just fine. Trouble maker thinks she is dying. She is in the heifer barn and everything is scareing her.

She'll be fine.

I am having the exact same problem! And I get so mad at her, too! I cannot isolate her right now since I already have a chicken in the kennel in the house (sigh). I have been using Blue-Kote and really upping the protein. I just put in an order for some mealworms and crickets, too. I also got that gross brown stuff that you put in the water (I can't remember what it's called). It's only been a few days but it doesn't seem to be working yet.

I saw on an earlier thread that someone wiped something all over the other chickens that tasted terrible so they wouldn't get pecked. Does anyone remember what that was? I am so worried...since I've been using the Blue-Kote on the butts, she has started in on other places, like underneath in the "fluff."

by far not even close to being an expert. Is there a roo in with the hens. maybe she has taken on the role of DA ALPHA CHICKEN.

As I'm getting to many eggs, I don't think so. She's not one I'm looking at possibly culling but if she doesn't straighten out, I'll reconsider it!

There is a roo with them.

The peepers make it so the one doing the pecking can't see straight ahead to actually peck and cause damage. Put the peepers on the pecking hens and they will stop.

I understand that. I also understand that I will have to buy them and with to many chickens it just doesn't make sence. Mine are farm animals and while some are favorites (she is not) they will be treated as farm animals. To much product out then thinning of the flock (or herd) is required.

It was just a suggestion. I was not trying to indicate your hens were pets. Peepers are less than $3 for a bag of 25. If you were looking for an easy way out the peepers would work and are not expensive at all. I don't see how using peepers make a chicken less than a livestock. It is the same as putting a ring through a pigs nose.
