Pecking Issue

Pics
My sister and BIL will be here late August for two months.
I am afraid I do not get the connection to your chicken issue, or will they come and take half of the expected chick overload with them?

I have not started the 2nd coop build.

You better hurry as chicks tend to grow very quickly and you will soon be confronted with a "chicken tsunami".

"Cluster tangle". Now I have not heard that one before.
My PG version of a coinage by the 1960s by Hippie poet Ed Sanders.

Here I thought you'd beat the chicken math tangle with the logic of building a big coop before you got birds, then you hatched that one batch last year, now you have possible crowding issues and at a least 15, maybe 30, more birds to integrate.
Ted, I'm so disappointed in you. :( ;) :gig

This is one of the reasons why it is advised to keep the broody hen and her nest separate from the other hens, so she will not be disturbed or even driven off her nest and the others would not be able to add to her clutch.

There are too many things that one has to know in order to keep chickens. I just "wing" it sometimes.

My sister is my partner in all things chicken. They come for a couple of months each years and immerse themselves; are a big help.

My 15 are already twice their hatch size... will put in a low roost board tonight. We hatched 8 last October so know how quickly they grow.

I am so sorry I have let you down.

I will give 6 of the Chanteclers to others to "pay forward" help they have given me. I will get the 2nd coop done in time. Immediate issue is brooder space in the coop; will make 3 sections including the one space for the cat's nest (I may enclose that given experience).

That sounds very nice. I could do with such a sister as well.

Fingers crossed that you will get everything ready just in time.

I added a second, bigger swing in the run space below the coop.
