Pecking me!

my month olds keep pecking me. i push them back on there chest with my fist (not beating them or punching them as grandpa thought) but they still do it. how do i stop them? it starting to hurt!

I never permit a chicken to come up and peck my boots or coat without doing this afterwards:

I reach out with my hand, and if they don't get away first, I grab the chicken. I then proceed to hold it for a minute or so.

That's it! I have let it know that I am the boss. Now, if anyone pecks my boots, all I have to do is reach my hand out. I'm the top of the pecking order. They are testing you.

You will see chickens pecking each other. The one who runs away or doesn't fight back is lowest.

If they persist (which they did before I started this technique), you could get really "ugly" and hold the chicken down on the ground with your hand for a minute. They found this extremely humiliating.

Since they are so small, i think it would be effective to "peck" them back, with your finger, right on the top of the head.

I had a 7 day old Barred Rock jump up yestereday and grab my ring when i was reaching in to clean the waterer. Little bugger wouldn't let go! DH had a good laugh.
