PEcking order or anger issues?

I have 47 week old chickens I need to add to the coop… I have tried to add them in the past Week… By putting a kennel inside the run and keeping them visible but separated… Today I tried to let them all join together… One hen is very aggressive with them... so I put them back in the kennel... I hate the pecking order thing it seems so rough... I can’t watch but don’t want to leave them alone during the first encounters... my question is to I let them attack... or do I intervene?? I have never had this much trouble before

I supervise the interactions and separate out the chicks when things gets rough. I do it every day until I feel comfortable leaving them out longer. Eventually they can handle themselves. Sometimes it goes easy, sometimes it takes a while.

^^^ what aart said. Hens are brutal to chicks and I wouldn't think about integrating until 2-3 months. I've had broody raised chicks I could integrate at 7weeks. People reared chicks seem to have a harder time.

I've had broody raised chicks I could integrate at 7weeks. People reared chicks seem to have a harder time.

I just integrated a broody and her four 2wo chicks in with the flock by taking down the wire wall that separated them during setting/hatching. The mama gets in more fights than the chicks, but the chicks have places to 'hide'. Things calm down after a day or so. I also integrate my incubator hatched chicks young, out to the coop by 1wk, then integration begins at 4wks.

Oh there were some knock down dragout fights......but I've got lots of space too, that helps a lot.
