Okay okay I’m just noticing this now, but is a rooster not part of the pecking order at all? I’ve never noticed Kia or now that I think about it my old roo Cowboy trying to get their places in the pecking order or the hens putting them in their place(accept for my hens with Kia when he was younger, they learned their lesson with cowboy and decided to make him too terrified of them to get close to them… no silkie EEs for me :( 😂

But I noticed that because I realized that I always put the new hen either between two of my friendliest chickens or one of my friendliest hens and my roo, like tonight Babs went between her bestie Elephant and my rooster Kia. Are all roosters like that? Or is it just Kia since he’s a silkie? I don’t remember much about Cowboys behavior, only that he was a jerk but pretty handsome

Cowboy is well… the black and white one, the not silkie with the hen with the torn up back, I sold them as a pair.
First picture is elephant Babs and Kia then last is Kia

Roosters are not part of the pecking order.
Cockerels may be subject to being put in their place by senior hens until they reach maturity but once mature they they fall outside the hens heirachy. This may in part be explained by the rooster having to attract hens by finding and offering titbits they discover. Much of the hens pecking order is based around who gets to eat first.
The rooster priority is to feed his hens because they will carry his genes forward.

Oohh I didn’t notice that’s why he did that, he’s just always fed the hens, I thought it was super sweet, he mainly feeds the two hens I got him with, my silkie hens

My new pullet just walked up to my rooster and got up in his face and started jumping at him, my rooster wasn’t have it 😂 he just jumped back at her once she started, didn’t care up until then, and she instantly ran away

I just watched one of my tiny chicks jump at my cockerell, easily twice her size, and he backed down. Is this normal before he starts to crow? He should be about 12 weeks old, and she 8.

I’m so confused- where did you get that. But yes I AM still homeschooled, I do not plan to go to college as I don’t see a need to and I didn’t miss middle school I just did it from home
His comment was directed at me, with the assinine assumption that feral human behavior (as found in a typical middle school) will translate into chicken behavior.
