Hi, I have seven ten day old chicks and and some of them have bare spots around their necks nd chests. I think they may be pecking at each other but we did some research and the most common response was that they were growing to fast for their feathers. I think I am going to try putting vinegar or vaseline or something like that on the bare spots so they hopefully don't get pecked again. If this has happened to your chicks or you have a comment please reply.

Thanks,
Douza

Blucoat works to prevent pecking. It covers the red area that they are attracted too. It available at about any place that would sell their feed.

Sometimes it's pecking and sometimes it's just weird feather growth.

Look over your chicks every day in good light. Cover any injuries with blue coat and switch to a red heat lamp so the chicks will not be as attracted to the wounds. Reduce pecking by making sure that your chicks have enough room to move about. Adding some bricks or pieces of 2x4 and a perch or two to amuse them might also lessen pecking.
