Pecking

I'm having the same problem. I have 2 rir 1 auraucana, 1 barred rock, and one buff Orpington1 of the rir has pecked the other rir and the auraucana badly. Their backs are bare, wings pecked undersides. I removed the injured chickens for weeks and it was hard to get them back in. I put vice on them and it deterred the pecking for a day. But last night she got at them again. So today I removex mthe agressor and she's in the garage. No one is laying eggs anymore and my girls are so stressed!the worst

I have the same problem. Here's some history: My husband bought 6 RIR hens and 1 Roo at auction last Saturday and we have a bum pecker. She has her feathers and the others are somewhat bare. We have them in quarantine away from our free rangers. They seem fairly healthy but are laying thin shelled eggs so I am confining the Roo and giving them oyster shell part of the day. I am interested in trying the Vick's Vapor but for the time being I have Lavender oil. Will it work like the tea tree oil someone suggested? Also I like the idea to hang cabbage for them to peck at. What other fruits or veggies would be good to try? Thanks in advance!

Mine love things like watermelon, bananas, corn, peas, sunflower seeds, and mealworms.

I figured I'd update. Sunny was away from the others and healed back to normal, took about a month though. Once the weather started getting nicer and the area around the coop started melting and grass showing. We let all the hens out and added Sunny. She has been back with the others for about two weeks now and Sweetie seems to have stopped pecking at their butts. I'm taking it as frustration. Once they were able to scratch and eat something that they were able to forage for, they went back to their "happy place". All I can say is THANK GOD IT'S OVER. lol
