Has anyone used one of these in a brooder box - such as a mama heating cave/plates? Curious to know if they get hot enough.

I like that it looks more durable than a traditional heating pad. I especially want something lower wattage if I am to use it in the main coop/fence area as it would have to be battery powered. Otherwise the brooder would need to be closer to the house and run an extension cord, which I am not keen on. Inside is not an option. Looking to try a whole new setup this year, but recycle as much as possible - and eliminate the use of a heat lamp. Chicks would be raised in zone 7 - outdoors. Still working on setup but have to figure out heating 1st!! Hens are currently fine in David's coop with lots of airflow, without ever using heating. Obviously, chicks would need no wind and some source of heat for a bit.

Never tried it but assuming the temperatures they list are accurate, I don't see why it wouldn't work. If you do go this route make sure to test it ahead of time to see how well it warms up.

I have a pet heating pad, I bought it for my dog. Can I use it in the brooder box😂😂 Have you tried?
I use one that heats up to 100 degrees, have it in the coop and the bantam chickens sit on it to keep warm, it doesn't heat up the air, just the chicken when sitting on it. I don't use anything in the nest box which is placed inside the coop, so the broody hens sit on the eggs to keep them warm. Bantums crowd together naturally so keeping warm us not an issue. I have coconut fiber nesting material for the broody hens to sit their eggs on. I live in El Paso, TX so the winter weather is not severe here. My chickens started laying eggs in December and started brooding eggs in February.
