Pedigree Database for Peafowl.

AugeredIn,A "Pedigree" per say in my meaning of the word is a 100% known positive of the parents of the chick. Not necessarily going back 2 generations, just the first.Unless hens eggs can be 100% known the peachick could not have a "pedigree" per say.If more than 2 breeding males are in a breeding pen,no "pedigree" per say could be given on any hatched chicks.Occassionally in late afternoon I do spend time watching hens and many times know when several hens are in the same pen, which hen is due to lay that day.But unless I see her lay the egg and mark that egg coming from her it has no pedigree worthiness. But still that chick would have a known father and if all hens are the same in the pen I think people can summize what to expect.
This year I plan to introduce bssp hens in with several of my "pure color" pens using only1 bssp hen per breeding pen.If I hatch out a chick that shows a pied pattern or b/s pattern it will also be possible to "pedigree" that chick. It may take a few months,or it maybe noticable at hatch if that egg came from one of those hens but if only 1 hen of bssp is there,no way a w/e,pied,or b/s chick could have come from the straight colored hens also in the pen.
If this takes off and good records and pictures are taken it will be interesting for people to see the ancestors of newly uploaded birds.I hatched an all white chick out of Thang,Mmmaddie13 has the other white chick he sired this summer. Both hens in his breeding pen are IB each showing white flights. These IB hens also (at least 1 of them, possibly both) is split to purple because Mmmaddie13 also has the only 2 purple chicks I hatched from Thang.
Notations like these should be entered once the birds pictures and information is added about that bird. With this database anyone that has eggs or chicks from any of these birds can look them up here and read what is known about the parents.Perfect example is the two purple hens Mmmaddie13 has,and both 100% white chicks (Mmaddie13's white is named Wylie with lots of pics on BYC) we both have from these 3 birds.
These records we add to the database are no more intense than my handwritten ones done nightly here, with the exception of adding pictures.I also keep spreadsheets on Excell for daily eggs collected per pen. I don't intend to upload every peachick I hatch but if I sell peachicks or eggs I can then guide the buyer to the database for them to possibly upload pictures when their birds hatches or gets maybe a year old. This wil be especially helpful for buyers wanting eggs from breeders who do not have a website. The buyer can come to the database and then see all the birds the seller has. This can be an online resource for everyone who utilizes it.Of course if your flock free ranges with several Peacocks and peahens all running together and laying a community clutch it is somewhat useless.
