Pee Pads under Roost

I have 8 chicks from 3-5 weeks old and setting up my new coop! I was wondering if anyone has ever used Pee Pads under the roost? I thought I could secure them on a wide board under the roost then just pick them up and toss them every couple of days.

What issues would I run into?

Unneeded expense comes to mind...

Let em poop, then scoop if you must. Over a year with deep litter I have never cleaned it and it does not smell.

I had a surplus of pee pee pads after my son's puppy was potty trained. I used them in my bath tub turned brooder for 2 batches of chicks, they worked well at adsorbing moisture out of the poos , I changed them twice a day. Now I would have never bought them just for the chicks but they were effective and I never had anyone pecking at them. I just got a big bag of PDZ and will use like kitty litter and scoop poo as needed under roost. I used deep litter method in my coop but lately my ducks have decided to sleep with the chickens and under the roost is their preferred spot???? a poop board with the PDZ should keep the quackers from getting bombed in the night.

I would just install a tray (or trays) with sand on them. I found it very easy to use as I could just use a cat litter scooper to clean it, and the birds enjoyed scratching and dust baths (plus the sand coated the droppings so less mess on my chooks). Just make sure the tray is deep enough (so it doesn't all get scratched out day 1), and I would suggest washing or replacing the sand every so often. Just my 2 cents...

What is pdz, and what is x3 and why would you put x3 on pdz???

Sweet PDZ is also known as Stall Dry. It's a granulated product that you just pour onto the poop boards. It traps moisture so the poop you clean up is mostly dry clumps, similar to the way cat little clumps up waste. It absorbs odor so your coop smells better, especially effective at blocking ammonia odors. A simple cat little type scoop and you can pick up the poop that accumulates on the poop board. The poop board is set up under the roosts, usually suspended under it, and catches waste they leave when they are roosting all night. It's made of a harmless mineral, so it's safe to use around them and you.

The x3 means the the poster agrees with a post he/she read. So if I say, "I like bananas" and the next person types x2 or x3 it means they like them to, or agree with what was said.

Nope, different ingredients.

Stall Dry is Diatomaceous Earth...and sometimes Calcium Montmorillonite clay.
Sweet PDZ is 100% Clinoptilolite often called Zeolite.

But is used in the same way.
Not sure SD comes granulated,
PDZ is offered in a powder or granules(granules are less dusty)

<head smack> Duh, I knew that! I think because they are used interchangeably, I didn't word that very well.
Actually, I did not know...but being insatiably curious, did some googling.
Was kinda surprised really.<scratcheshead>
I guess DE and clay is cool for horses, their copious liquid rendering the dust to muck and their noses are far from the floor, but not so much for chickens.
