New 'hen' In The Backyard here. I recently got interested in chickens. I am raising 2 chicks now, A yellow Buff Orpington and a Barred Rock and plan to get some more chicks this Spring. I was going to get 2 of each breed but I have found so many that I love it looks like I'm going to have a rainbow of hens. If I got as many breeds as I wanted I'd have to move. LOL! I had no idea how beautiful chickens could be! There are so many different kinds, what a pleasant surprise but now I've got so many photos and info I've really turned this into a job especially since I began wanting six hens and now am thinking about 7 or 8. I have always given 100% to my dogs (the only animal I've owned) and have made them family members and I take good care of my animals. I never knew I could have feelings for a chicken!!! but I'm actually feeling a little love for my baby chicks after these few weeks. This is getting exciting. Anyhoo, both of these chickens I have now are supposed to be roosters but from what Ive read, the Orpington might just be a hen, fingers crossed. I will post photos later and probably ask for some opinions. This website looks like it's just right where I need to be and I'm so glad I ran across it. Looking forward to our discussions.
