Peep's Art Class

Assignment 1:
Due 10-18-14

Do a quick sketch of something. Nothing to detailed. Something like this

Don't use a ref picture. Reference of a moving creature, like one of your chickens free ranging. I am going to assume everyone has pets, if you don't let me know :)

If all assignments are turned in before the due date, I will end it early and we can continue on.

So I just do a quick sketch of one of my Pets? :p

1. Sketch a basic outline
2. Add more details
3. Erase extra lines from step 1
4. Add feathers and define light source
5. Add some shading

Basic chicken portrait tutorial, took no more then 10 minutes. I used only a HB pencil, nothing special for shading. Hope this helps! Let me know if you need more detail. I will do other tutorials soon :)

Edited to fix pic rotation :)

Peep this is an excellent idea. I wish I had more time I'd be all over this not because I'm a good drawer but because I like to learn. Keep the link going, I will check back often to check out everyone's progress. ;)

Thanks! Hope to see you back soon :)

I also forgot to mention right now we are on the basics, like the tutorials I will be posting are basic. The horse on my 1st post took over a hour to do. If it's your first time learning drawing, you aren't going to be some professional artist right away, trust me :) I am not a professional, this is just a hobby ;)

Tip:

Want to get better at drawing animals from real life? We'll go take your sketch pad, go sit by the coop, by your cats play area... Etc. Practice drawing the animals, even as they are moving. It might he challenging, especially with the chickens, or even your dog. But the challenge will help make you a better artist!

This will be a skill that will be used in future assignments

Here is a drawing I did of my chicken Pepper when she was free-ranging. This is from July, you can see how much my style has changed :)
