Hi everyone,

I'm quiet surprised at what I've just witnessed
My 9 week old Pekin Bantam boy, Dave has (quite clumsily ) just been trying to mate with a couple of my girls.

It's no problem at all but I thought at 9 weeks old that wouldn't be entering his head

Anyone else had boys mature this early ?

I'm used to Brahmas, Hercules didn't think of anything like that for many months so what you said makes sense x

We tend to think about sex and fertilizing the eggs when we see chickens mating but apparently not in your boy's case. Those 9 week old pullets aren't laying yet. That's about dominance. If he can get on top, he is demonstrating his dominance over the others. He is quite young but others have started even younger. It's one way they go about setting up the pecking order and social ranking within the flock.

To me that's just another example of why chicken TV is better than anything on cable, antenna, or satellite. You never know what will happen next.

sorry i am a little late to this thread but all of my pekin roosters would mate both my hands and the hens it is so funny
