Pekin Duck Club!

Thanks, I am kind of bummed that the Pekins don't normally go broody. I really would prefer to go the mother nature route, but I want a chance for ducklings. I have a Buff Orphington that goes broody once a year, but she just quit being broody before the ducks started laying this year. Bad timing.

Hi, i just read ur post. My buff O ducks went broody 2 x's this yr. Maybe if you leave the eggs in the nest & let them build up the ducks will usually sit on them. Just make sure you date the eggs ea day, so u know when they were laid. Just an idea, my ducks dont start sitting until they have a few in the nest.
Hope this helps someone!

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I have a Buff Orphington chicken, not a duck. I have even tried to leave a pile of eggs to see if she or one of her two sisters would go broody and sit on the duck eggs, but no luck.
I fear I am locked into getting an incubator. Oh well. I have a restaurant interested in duck eggs so I will have to increase my flock size and in a year or two will have to start to hatch my own replacement ducks for laying so I think it will be a wise investment for me.

Hi, I've not had luck with Pekins sitting long enough to hatch eggs, but last year my girl did try. She even got a couple boys to sit on eggs while she took a break. Pretty cute! Then everyone lost interest. So...we ended up with eggs in the incubator.
