Pekin Duck Club!

you are her owner ... but me personally 1. i'd be worried about the stress your putting on her wing joints if not held properly- not saying you arent! - just saying . Pekins arent ment to fly . yes they flap them and open them but "flying" them around? what if you slip and fall? or she spooks ? she falls and breaks her wing or leg ?..... IMO thats not worth it ... and 2.. if your asking about the safety my guess is you already dont think it is . but like i said you are her owner :) do what you think is best for you both .

Oops sorry about that, not real familiar with the response thingy. Thanks for the advice. I'm not worried about falling or her getting spooked. She runs a lot while doing the full flap so I imagine her wings are strong. I've just never seen anyone else do this so was curious. She is a special duck, more like a cat in some ways. She rubs her head and neck on your leg until you pick her up. Her sister is just the opposite, will hang out near you but don't even think about trying to pet her.

so I have a question.....and Im not sure if this is the right forum or not.......but I will put it out there.......Im interested in reducing my flock and wanted to know if size wise it was better to wait a yr or to reduce the flock at 6 months......?

I seem to think that this thread is more leaning towards pekin ducks as pets......am i correct?

I can't answer your question but it is a good question I'd be interested to know too. We don't all treat them as pets... Well I kinda do but once I have a flock... Then not so much. If that gets me band from this thread then so be it. :/

i have a nice flock.....and some have leg issues (3)....but they can get around.......and they are on flock raiser but only to get them into the pen at night......and they only get a LITTLE bit......the rest of the time they are pond fed.....we have a 300 ft long 15 ft wide 6 ft deep fingerling pond.......and we let them out at dawn and put them up at dusk........but I got these ducks to eat......and reproduce....so I plan on taking them down to about 3 females and the strongest male.....but I dont want to keep feeding them and tending so many if they are just as big at 6 mo as they will be at 1 yr......so any help on this matter would be greatly appereciated........
