Pekin Duck Club!

Hello all. I just wanted to share a pic of our girl French Fries

I also wanted to ask. When do Pekin Ducks usually start laying? She is 6 months old and we are very excited for our first duck egg.
Hi there! My girl started laying when she was just a little over 4 months. From what I have read people usually say 4-6 months :) Hopefully you'll get one soon. It's like Christmas morning when you find your first one :)

Look what came from one of my girls!!!

LOL they do that mine vary in sizing too. You sure it's not a double yolker? my daughter candled one and thought no and then cooked with it, it was!

Awesome!

My cat finally figured out we have ducks. He is an indoor cat though and can't get in on any action with them.

Hi all! Awesome Pekins everyone! Please add me to the club!

My husband and I have been keeping 4 pekin ducks, named for the golden girls; Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sophia. They pretty much totally fit their names! Dorothy is the smartest, Rose is the loudest and most sassy, Blanche looks perfect and appears to be our master layer. Sophia was always a little smaller and sort of the odd one out. For awhile we thought she might be a drake; her beak is not taxi-cab yellow like the other girls, but lighter and more of a fleshy pink color. Also, at about 16 weeks she started to identify herself as the protector of the group. When she feels threatened, she makes a strange, low, repetitive honking type noise. But she seems to make the normal quaking noise as well and now at almost 25 weeks, I've seen no sign of a drake feather, and he body is starting to show the same swollen chest/abdomen and wider stance as the other girls, so I think we're in the clear!

Anyway, I do have a few questions for the Pekin experts around here! First, how do you know if your bird is overweight? My girls, especially Blanche and Dorothy, are HUGE! They are still quite active so I wasn't too concerned, but I'd like to be sure.
Second, what kind of a laying season do you get with Pekins? We chose them for their temperament and flightlessness. But our main goal in keeping ducks is harvesting their eggs. Ideally, I'd like to be able to have the eggs year round, but I definitely don't want to cause any harm to my birds by pushing them. What experiences have you all had with laying?

Thanks everyone! Here are some pics for reference:

I wonder if they are mistaken them for geese? As long as you keep everything clean, they would have to take me in front of a judge and Show me that law in writing. I can't stand people who have nothing better than to sit on facebook bad mouthing neighbors and friends. Especially when it has to do with something like this! They need a hobby! Give me their facebook I'll be glad to give them a few hobby ideas. :)
