That baby duck is so cute! I got mine when they were already getting a little big, so they were never that tiny, fluffy baby stage. I went to the feed store to get some supplies and they had Cayugas that were only a couple days old... It was SO hard not to get any of them, but I had to hold and cuddle them.

You scored!! That ducklet is so cute and I wish I could kiss him/her.

Thank you! She's a little stinker, and bites all the time, but I love her

Thank you! Being new to ducks, when can I move them outside? I was thinking 4 weeks, because it's already warm where I am, but wasn't sure.

I brought my ducklings outside today to let them hang out with the chickens and everyone surprisingly got along fine. I think the chickens are a little scared because they have never seen ducks before, and my EE who usually picks on new chicks ran away when I put them in the pen.
Can ducks and chickens live together when they are adults? I will be moving my ducklings outside in one or two weeks, and I wanted to know if I can put my new chicks back in with them. (They were together for about 2 weeks but I had to separate them because the ducks grew so fast).
I just wanted to know if I could move them all into this little coop that I don't use anymore. Otherwise, I will have to buy a separate one for the ducks until I can move the chicks into the big coop with my other chickens.

Yep, depending on where you are located, I'd say 4 weeks. I'm in South Carolina and it has been in the mid to late 70's here (some days in the 80's) for the past couple weeks. My babies were 4 weeks old on April 20&21 (this past week) and they've been spending the day outside since about two and a half weeks old, I'd guess - maybe three weeks. They love it. I do bring them in at night, but I plan to start keeping them outside once I'm completely finished with their permanent house.

I live in north Georgia, so pretty close climate wise! I haven't even started on their duck pen... How many square feet per duck? My chickens only have two because they free range, not sure if that would work for Pekins though!

If I could, I would have all kinds of birds roaming around, so I understand! lol I have to limit myself on what I do and get!
I won't hatch anything that I don't plan to keep (except for the bobwhite quail, because I release most of them) OR doesn't already have a predesignated home (i.e. incubating for a trusted friend).
My ducks are pets and that's what I intended them to be, before I even ordered the eggs. I don't view my ducks any differently than my parrot and parakeet.

I am not really sure about required square footage. I've been using 3' tall chicken wire to cordon off an area of the yard at a time. As always, with all birds (that I am aware of), you want to give them as much space as possible. With that said, my "pen" is about 4'x6'. It works for now. I put them in a different spot of the yard every couple/few days to keep the grass mowed and fertilized!! lol This method also gives them new grasses to chew on and new bugs to eat consistently. I'd love to just let them roam the yard, truly free-range, but I need to put up a fence first!

To make a long, drawn-out story/debate short, some people think it is okay to house ducks and chickens together, some people think it should not be done.
Most people on here will say that you should not house ducks and chickens together in the same pen/coop.

I already view Merry and Pippin and family members. No different from my bunny or dog, so I don't think I could ever part with them or any others. If I'm not careful I'll end up with way too many ducks! Out of curiosity, why can't chickens and ducks be housed together? Will they peck each other? I have a friend who keeps them together without issues, but I have not tried it myself obviously.
