Pekin Duck Club!

They are 4weeks old I havnt had a heat lamp on them for about a week. At nite i keep them in the house with me I thought. Maybe she might be hot but its about 50 degrees in my room and I have a fan pointing towards the floor but she is still breathing heavy not all the time just when she stops making noise she sounds like she is quack talking if that makes any sence i am going to post a veido of it later this morning do u think that would be a good idea .she seems pretty happy and she follows the other ducklings around eats drinks and looks up at me when ever i tell her its going to be ok

I think she's probably fine but a video would be helpful. It sounds a lot like my Jumbo girl and she eventually kind of "grew out" of it. I'd be more concerned if she was showing any other symptoms.
When you post your video, also post all the information about the brooder, feed, etc.

What are they in?
What are you using for bedding?
What kind of feed?
Anything added to their water?
Niacin?
Treats?
....and anything else you can think of. It helps people to properly diagnose any potential problems. I'm off to bed but will check in with you tomorrow!

i had one that was doing the exact same thing. was very worried. but into longer does it:) i thought maybe it was too hot too but he/she still did it when heat lamp was off. hasn't done it for about 2 weeks now and all my ducks are good. no problems so far. :)

I have a Pekin that has been sitting on eggs for 2-3 weeks. She is doing great staying with them. I have had Pekins for years and others have always spent hours off the eggs so they never hatched. I candled one and it is developing. I read if they are secure, they will tend to stay with the nest. She is in a safe box that I close them in at night but leave the entrance open during the day. Has anyone been successful with hatching eggs from a Pekin sitting on them? She was raised with her adoptive parents that I put her with when she was a day old.

This is Guy, just chillin in his pool! He's so cute! His favorite treats are whole corn, sweet feed, and bananas!
There'

s not a dirty or out of place feather on him.

I went to a feed store and like I said before anyone gets mad at me i have no ducky knowledge so I really am really relying on other peoples knowledge so i ask a person who works at the feed store if I should change my ducks food and they said yes layer feed would be ok now but after reading everything they say no but they have had a whole bag of it which I'm changing back but do u think my ducks breathing thing is because of the feed I hope I didn't hurt them in anyway

Possibly, layer feed shouldnt be fed unitl around 20 weeks. I've learned that you can not trust anything the feed store workers say. They are not trained or certified and most dont even have poultry, yet they feel they have the knowledge to tell people what they need to do. I would deffinitly switch. Good luck.

Welcome to the club! I only have one pekin, Soleil, so I don't know much about Pekin's going broody. I hope that it's successful for you! Please keep us updated! How many pekins do you have now? What are their names? :D
