Pekin Duck Club!

My pekin ducks are 5 months old. I have two females and a drake. Today while filling their pool my drake mated with both my females. Am I going to have eggs and baby duck soon. If so how soon after mating do they start laying? I want to be ready either way.

Thanks in advance.

Usually once mating begins eggs can follow 3-4 weeks after. I am going by my Scovy's so I maybe wrong with Pekins. But ducklings will only come if you have one of your ducks go broody or you put the fertile eggs into an incubator and hatch them yourself. Ducks will learn to lay inside their house if you 1. give them a little space to get where they can have privacy just a piece of scrap OSB or plywood laid it up against the wall like half a tee pee and secure it so it doesn't fall on them they will use it to lay their eggs in. Mine sleep in stalls so they lay in their in the shaving I provide for them.Main thing is you want them to learn to lay where it is safe in case one wants to brood eggs eventually.

Welcome to BYC.

My ducks share a 10 X 12 hen house with my chickens and guineas. They get along well with them and I have noticed they have been spending a lot of daytime inside the house. I will keep an eye out for eggs in the next few weeks. I do want to hatch some. Thanks for the info it is much appreciated.

Hazel has developed a little black spot on her bill. I've read that it's normal and from hormones perhaps? I noticed it the other day and thought it was mud. Today I caught her and took a closer look and much to my dismay it's not mud. Any incite on this would be wonderful.

If she's been at laying age for a bit, then yes, it's normal. It's very common in white and lighter-colored ducks with orange/yellow/pink bills. Still wouldn't hurt for you to post a pic. I saw an absolutely awful bill issue on here yesterday, but that doesn't sound like what you're seeing in her.

Here is JoJo in his new undies! And him and Ryleigh in the hall. But @Juliebird we went to my parents, they loved him, amazed at how he was. My mother was p!aying with him and the hose. Surprise, he's not a diseased and filthy creature that attacks and bites! Lol everyone got a kick out of the diaper.
