Hmmm... I don't know... maybe Amiga will check in on here as she has lots of experience. My ducks have never done that - they seem to welcome our drake. Have your ducks all grown up together?
I only wash the bowls every several months. There's really no need unless you live somewhere that it's super moist and might have to deal with mold, etc. The chickens completely clean their feeders and if the ducks have any dried up leftovers, I'll just dump it out for the chickens to scratch for and re-fill the ducks' bowl. As for the ducks, they seem to be a little more of picky eaters than the chickens, but they will eat when they get hungry. They also seem to like it more sloppy - could try that... drop a bunch of peas or chopped romaine in it...
The people on here who have house ducks use diapers on their ducks, or they are just probably using an old towel while they spend a little time with them. I have noticed that when the ducks are on fermented feed, their poo is much more solid, thus eliminating the watery burts - LOL
Yes, you should get several more girls and then the boys will have enough to go around.
Stephanie C... here's the post. As I said, I used tea tree oil, which has natural antiseptic and healing qualities, and it cured it with one treatment; otherwise, my treatment regimen was the same as countrygirl74's.Okay everyone,
I wanted to go ahead and post how everything is going with the bumblefoot. I took pictures of my worst bumblefoot patient, "Ping", my Jumbo Pekin. After discovering hers, I inspected all the ducks and the other 3 had some in various degrees. The drake's is now completely gone, the female Rouen's is almost gone, and my other Pekin is slowly recovering as well. Since Ping's was the worst, I used her as the example as her bumblefoot still has a little ways to go. I was actually quite amazed that the others' disappeared so quickly.
The first photo was taken on May 25th, so it's been a little under 2 weeks. I ordered the koi meds but they took about a week to arrive. In the meantime, I soaked her feet in epsom salts about 4 times - during the first week. I applied NuStock to her feet daily for about a week, then switched to every other day. I did place "socks" on her feet for the first week to keep the NuStock on better. The next week, I just applied it and then placed her back into her run of clean shavings. I did limit her swimming and took out the shallow pan of water to keep her feet dry with the socks and meds on. I also increased her thiamine intake by letting her have dark leafy greens and peas more often. I also added niacin to their water for a few days. Because I ended up getting sick with a cold for a few days, I actually missed a couple days of treating her at all AND as a result, I hadn't started the koi meds as planned. So, the improvement has been NuStock and diet alone so far. At this point, I might not use the koi meds...we'll see...

kodster used tea tree oil and I used NuStock - they both seemed to work pretty well, although the tea tree oil sounds like it might have been faster... either way, I definitely now believe that it's not necessary to cut into the foot.
Thanks for finding that for her!Stephanie C... here's the post. As I said, I used tea tree oil, which has natural antiseptic and healing qualities, and it cured it with one treatment; otherwise, my treatment regimen was the same as countrygirl74's.
2 eggs equal 2 hens! You lucky guy/gal you!I recently took in 2 Pekin Duck's from a friend of mine. She's never been 100% sure about their sex but she has gotten eggs everyday for over a year. By their quacking I would say for sure they are girl's. Not sure about the tail feathers though because I think they both kind of curl. She did say one has been trying to have special "moments" with the other. But my question is could it be possible for 1 Duck to lay 2 eggs over night? Isn't it 1 egg a day normally? That would be the easiest way to be 100% sure that I have 2 girl's! I also have 2 Kacki Campbell's but their to young to start laying eggs.
