Pekin Duck Club!

This is our first go at being an Urban Farmer :) We have 3 Pekin ducks, Huey, Louie and Dewey. Now we find ourselves praying for Females! Here are some pictures of our little ones. They are approx 8 weeks old. Any idea on their sex? I cannot tell anything from their little peeps.
As far as snacks go, fresh berries, watermelon, frozen peas or corn. At night, I give them this treat in fresh water before bed. They come running when they see me coming out each night with treats!
We are in Florida and even their little pond gets hot during the day. We have started using a small sprinkler and they Love It! In one picture you can see Huey, (older and larger than Louie or Dewey) with his mouth open drinking cold sprinkler water.

Welcome! And beautiful babies you have!

At 8 weeks you should have no problem at all voice sexing them. Usually females are talkers, quaking loud and what you usually assume from a duck.
A male will usually be more quiet and have a raspy sounding voice (like when we have a sore throat/flu). Also, the males are usually a bit bigger than the females (maybe Huey?). But you should be able to find lots of voice sexing videos on YouTube also.

If you feel patient enough you can wait another month or two til the tail feather on the male starts to curl (at the top end of his tail feathers). That way you know for sure!

They look like my babies lol. Something about having three is so nice. Mine will only eat romaine lettuce as a treat. I have tried other treats but they were not interested. Good luck with your babies I am in Florida too. Our 125 gal pond is under a shade tree and the water in it stays cool all day. I have three dollar store buckets that I keep fresh water in around the yard that I change at least twice a day.

I had not, thanks a bunch.

If the younger ones are only 6 weeks old there is no drake feather yet! It will only show up when they're about 3-4 months old. But then you should be able to tell by voice.

From your description the older two are one male and female. Good luck!

thanks, I'll watch for tails once they reach 3-4 months old
ur right it is indeed 1 male 4 female

thanks.

Does anyone else have problems with their drakes trying to mate with a chicken Hen? Because I read on another forum on BYC that several people lost chicken hens due to the drake trying to mate with them. I'm really worried because my drake keeps trying to get on my chicken hens but I always stop it, and I fear I won't be there one day too stop it. Any thoughts would be very appreciated! Thanks :)

I had not heard of it before, but it was funny to see this post as the other day I let my ducks out back with the chickens. Usually they are in separate parts of the yard. My drake tried to mate with one of my white chickens. I thought maybe he was just confused thinking she was a duck. She was a fast runner and was not having any of that I took the ducks back out of the yard. I did not know it could kill the chicken though. I will keep that in mind and in my mind it is no longer "cute" or "funny" that he was trying. That was just a natural reaction as it was unexpected. Thanks for the heads up.
