Pekin Duck Club!

400

They grow so fast, I can't believe they're already getting their adult feathers

How long should I let my ducks in the pool for? I've been. Letting them run around the basement with access to their pool for about ten hours a day. They are so happy. Is this OK?

How big is it & how many ducks? Are you putting in a liner too? We will be making one soon for our 8 ducks but not sure how big to make ours. And whether or not to use a liner or a preformed one.

its 6 feet long 5 wide 1.5 feet deep at its deepest. yes ill be putting in a liner and a filter pump and two ducks but the size is big enough for at least 4 ducks since they arnt just gonna be in there they have the hole yard to work with lol and i dug it by hand no machinery just a shovel and a wheel barrow. my wife was impressed lol

a preformed one is a lot more expensive and limits what and how deep you can go a liner allows you to make your own pattern and design while as a preformed one will limit you on what your creativity can come up with. that is my opinion. in the end its all up to what you can do both financially and physically can do.

the coops are constructed from 2x3s on the corners and in the middle and the frame is 1x3s on the top and 1x2s on the bottom all told it weighs in at over a hundred pounds and all hand done with no power tools. i never take the easy rout to build something. the nesting area is made of 1/4 inch exterior grade ply none of it is treated wood. and the duck house is also 1/4 ply but with added 1x3 blocks to give venting on the sides. its total length is 8 feet and its total width is 48.5 inches and it is 48 inches tall so small for now but will be expanded when nessisary
Wow, I could never make something like that. It's nice you can expand it if you have to. You probably rest easier knowing the birdies are safe in it.

it really wasnt that hard if you have a hammer and nails and a little bit of time you can do anything all i did was cut down the 8 foot long 2x3s to 48 inches and started with the middle section added the piece of 1/4 inch ply a foot from the end of the 2 2x3s and nailed and glued it then i build the box around that then i started on the ends i took 2 more 8 foot 2x3s and cut them in half to 48 inches and used them for the four sides i attached them using 1x3s cut in down to 48 inches and then glued and screwed them together finally to make the main structure i took two 8 foot 1x3s and glued and screwed them to the two end pieces at the top then i took the 1x2s and glued and screwed them to the bottom of the ends as well as the middle sections. for the chicken wire i used the heavy duty plastic chicken hexagonal wire and ran it length wise the entire 8 feet. i doubled it up in the middle to add more strength then came the doors on the chicken side there is a slide up door made up of 1x2s cut down to 24 inches and glued and screwed together. to make the track i used anther 1x3 ripped down the middle to an inch and added a strip of 1/4 ply to incase the sliding door. and on the duck side i used instead of the slide up door i used a swing out door with a locking block that swivels down and becomes locked in place and for the chicken side i used an old method pin in hole locking mechanism. and for the sides i went with a inch by an inch heavy duty plastic chicken wire. all told it only cost me 110 to build

I found a 4 1/2' roundish preformed that is 125 gal but not sure if that is big enough. We have a tractor so digging won't be a problem. So we are kinda leaning towards the liner (more cost effective). Just not sure about dementions.
Yours looks great. Don't think I could do one by hand. :)
