Pekin Duck Club!

Need advice. I just took in a flock of chickens and 5 Pekin ducks. Only one of the ducks is female. I love having several ducks, but I really don't think it is a good ratio. How hard would it be to bring new females into the flock? I would love to rehome some of the males and replace them with females. What do all of you think????? My poor female is getting a bit beat up.
Bringing in more females is a good idea but unless you can keep 2-4 females for each drake then re homing some of your drakes would be your best bet. and keep your female in with your chickens till you figure out what you want to do or they can really not only stress her out but injure her even drown her if you have a pool set up for them if they all decide to try and mount her at once. and it has happened. You hens[chickens] need to be kept separate from your drakes too or they will be trying to mate with them and it will not end well for your hens. Once you decide on how many drakes your going to keep then when you bring home your females keep them in separate fenced area where everyone can see each other but your giving the girls time to get use to their surrounding before giving them to the boys. and they will all have a chance to get use to each other.

Thank you, Miss Lydia. They came from a pretty sad situation and I want to make their lives better. Should I try to find ducks the same age as the ones I have or should I introduce younger ones? Would I be better off getting all the drakes new homes and just keeping her with my hens?

You know that will be up to you on whether you keep any drakes, I have Muscovy and having more than a couple drakes makes life very stressful for the flock the drakes just don't get along. So I had to re home 2 of my younger drakes this summer and believe me it wasn't an easy decision, I let them hatch here and I wanted to make sure where they went they weren't going to end up on the dinner table. I know alot of folks love duck dinner and I have no problem with the that just didn't want my 2 boys going there. If you can find females around the same age that would work out best if you bring in younger try to get them at least breeding age 4months and older or you'll have to keep them separate from the drakes until they are of breeding age. I love my 2 drakes, but you'll have to decide what is best for your situation..
I am glad you took them in and want to make their lives better that is awfully sweet of you.

I will tell her Debs Flock and thank you! :)
Kisses blown (wish I could really just smooch her head all over, but she's not having any of that!) And I will tell her! :)
I wish our birds would just let us hold them and cuddle with them. But we do what is best for them and try and not to stress them at all. Some people have ducks that are totally ok with being handled. I guess it has something to do with the duck from birth and bonding.

Me too! I have to stop myself from reaching out for a snuggle when they do something cute! But they have their own ways off being affectionate, they'll come so close and listen to my voice and they're soooo excited to see me! :)

I've been putting a lot of thought into getting a few females for JoJo, but how would he act towards ducklings? I cant find any ducks his age so I was considering metgzer farms? Is that a bad idea or can someone help me? They don't have to be Pekins just in the same weight class. Actually, I would love a different breed but it really wouldn't matter. As long as my little boy is happy!!!

Same breed doesn't matter at all if you're not breeding for purebred ducks. You might have a problem regardless what age ducks you get because JoJo is a lone drake, and drakes can be extremely territorial. JoJo sounds very tame and agreeable, so he might warm up to females if you introduce them slowly and monitor their interactions. Ducklings would just be a little more iffy than juveniles or full grown ducks simply because ducklings are more easily injured by a grown drake. You're very close to me and could have some of mine if it weren't for the extreme size difference.
