I do have a fenced area that they go into when no one is home. They were out while my son (20yrs) was home and outside doing yard work. He just couldn't get to them before the dog. I totally feel horrible for him because Ezmarelda died in his arms.

That's horrible. He is probably so upset. I'm always outside supervising my ducks too. You never think something could happen that quick. I'm so glad none of my neighbors close by have any pets!!!! Yikes! I bet your constantly worried now! I feel bad, this isn't your fault at all so don't beat yourself up! You did all u could to save her!

No, the trio was 2 Pekins and a brown duck, she didn't know what breed. I can get a single Muscovy girl, its just the flying..lol

ok, good then. I wouldn't be excited either about the wing clipping since I have never done it. Even though there's the guide posted I would be afraid of hurting the bird because of inexperience on my part. Do you have a vet that could do it.

I never leave them out and about without supervision, they go into their fenced in area where the sleep @ night. My 20yr son was @ home doing yard work, and wasn't able to get to them before the 150lb dog. I feel horrible for my son because Ezmarelda died in his arms while he was trying to stop the bleeding.
They were only let out when i or my son were outside with them.

I'm sure that was horrible for your son to go through. Very sorry .

That is so sad. Were you able to come to any sort of understanding with the neighbor about controlling their dog? I'd be terrified of letting our ducks out even if I were out with them if I had your situation.

Is she new to laying this year? Many ducks lay soft-shelled eggs or eggs with some soft spots, and that can happen when they begin laying. It's also a common sign of lack of calcium in their diet. Are you keeping oyster shell out for them?
