Pekin and his girls

OMGOSH. Pancaking birbs under the tree.

I am no pro by any means, we've only had Pekins a couple months (they are now about 8 months old) ...ours are both female and have slightly paler beaks than a lot of drakee pics I've seen on here. So your pale one may be female..? Also yours look some what on the thin side (in my opinion but mine are fatties

) mine were also incorrectly homed (dog house with a 6×6 3ft tall pen around it, no water play area) and fed the wrong feed too early. I THINK one has just finally started laying. We get an egg every morning, but with 8 birds, I have no clue who it's coming from, the Pekins are our oldest. Sorry I couldn't be more help, maybe once you get them on a better diet and a happier living area you'll better be able to figure out what they are

I agree they are on the thin side. I have another pekin male that's 50% larger and much younger than these two... These were in with 2 other ducks and 3 chickens in a 6x8x6 dog pen, half of which was take up by carriers as houses and cubbies reaching about 4' H. No water in the pen, and the floor about 10-12 inches deep with mud and scat - no hay or straw to be seen. Owner said he lets them out to run in the yard. I'm leaning towards the paler beaked one being a female that didn't have conditions right for laying. I normally toss the feed into the pen and let the chickens and ducks forage - but these guys looked at me like I threw poison at them. I'm going to put it in a bowl and offer a small kiddie pool and see if they get the hang out it. Will fatten them up and get them used to handling and see if we get eggs come spring. :)

Handled the ducks today to get a better look ( it was getting late last night by the time we got back). My gut is, it's a M/F pair in poor condition. The male has huge soft bubbles under his feet. I mean BIG. He's not limping, but I'm assuming bumblefoot. The female (if she's female, going to assume for now) has a smaller one on just the left side. The other two ducks seemed ok. Will get pics when I have a helper to hold them, as it's just me today and I've already landed on my fanny once in that pen today, ending up wedged on the in the 2' space between the duck house and the fence for the goats. With my smelly but sweet buck with the huge horns trying to "help" me up by pushing against me from his side. SMH

Oh my gosh I bet that was not funny. landing on your fanny and then having your buck trying to help. lol

I think your 2 Pekins are under weight but that can be fixed by just letting them eat as much and as often as they want. adding some good poultry vitamins to their water and giving some extra protein in the form of High quality cat/dog kibble and dried meal worms. The bumbles sound painful but if he isn't limping may not. Poor baby.

This is a really good treatment for Bumble foot I have used it an many others with success.

How old are your new ducks? also may want to have a fecal done to determine if they may have worms if they weren't living in clean quarters

It was kind of funny until I tried to get up and realized his face was wet & yellow (he's in rut) and that I'd have to change clothes immediately lol YUK

Yeah, I don't think they are painful, they aren't limping. But they are really big esp on the male. I need another person to hold him so I can look for black spots. I will check the link for the bumble treatment thank you ! :)

What are their voices telling you? A female's voice is a very loud quack (quite obnoxious), where a drake is very quiet. I only have females so my place is quite noisy! LOL

Even if there isn't any blk spot soaking in the Epsom salt water will help with healing.

We will try the epsom salt soaks and iodine wraps. :)

As for the voices, I haven't really heard the (hopeful) girl saying much, and when she does, it's a bit subdued. I have a rouen girl that does the same. Once I start working on her I'm sure I'll hear her real voice lol

Hi! I am kinda tired so I may not be reading what you wrote correctly…. the clear iodine - clear, not brown - just gets a couple of drops put on the swelling and it's not wrapped. I think Haunted55 said it's important not to wrap it… but that's just from memory.
