Pekin Duck Club!

Good news my friend has work to do for a friend that will help with care of my son and all pets in the house.and the lady who he did the work for Thursday and Saturday has more work for him. Ya we put bug b gone up front where I burred the ducks. I still need to do zone 2 which is right across the fence from ducks and nesting boxes.

I just put boric acid on neighbors side of fence. We spayed bug spray on front of fence. Put cinnamon and diatomaceous earth down. Just have to get more bug b gone for zone 2. Let's see how long these lasts. Ducks like to water pool the grounds side walk area and between bookshelves .

I am new here. We just got two baby pekin ducks. We are making plans to build them a house for at night that we can close up to protect them from predators and they will free range during the day (fenced 2 acre). My question is how tall should the house be? And how big of a door?

Hey folks question for this who have hatched out ducklings, I still have 3 days to go with the time of 28days but one of my eggs is already piping is that possible and or normal should I be concerned at all. Thanks for your advice and responses. also how much room between eggs do they need to hatch out without issues

If you can make a house full size so you can stand in it cleaning will sure be alot easier. Full size door too because we all know we cant stop at 2. lol

My babies are almost 4 weeks old and I've noticed they seem to be sneezing Alot what can I do?

Do you give them time in brooder-temperature water up to their bellies - no soap - daily? They also need to be able to dip their entire heads in water to keep their eyes, ears and nares clean. Otherwise they can get infections. There are instructions for head washers in the archives.

Orca5094 just posted this in the Sick Duck? thread

Ducks must have water deep enough to dip their heads and clear out their nares at all times. Ducklings get food stuck in their nares quite frequently and if they cannot properly blow it out of their nares, it can become dried and stuck in there and cause open-mouth breathing because they can't get enough air in through their blocked nares. Do they get bath time every day? That is also a good opportunity for them to really blow out their nares.

You can also make them a deeper waterer by getting an old plastic food container with a lid. Cut a hole in the lid just big enough for them to get their heads in so they can wash their eyes and blow out their nares. You don't want the hole big enough for them to get their bodies in, though. They will just get themselves and the brooder soaking wet and will chill quickly, which is life-threatening to little ducklings.
