Pekin Duck Club!

The one in that picture is the crested Cayuga. She is so pretty.
The buff/pekin is lightening up, go figure. You can't tell much different in her color now. I had at first thought maybe there was enough of her down to make it LOOK like she was buff. I am not sure now. Guess I'll have to wait! LOL

This is the "mob", as we call them, at 3 weeks old. They are now 7 weeks old. The one on the far left and far right (with her head down) are the Cayuga, the other two black were supposed to be blue Swedish (I think I got black Swedish). We call the 5 ducklings the "mob" because of the way they approach the adults, they overwhelm the adults with their numbers! They rush up to them and scare the wits out of the older ones! Funny to watch.
Oh, mercy that is funny and this MOB OF WEBBED FUZZES NEEDS ME TO KISS ALL OF THEM RIGHT NOW. NOW, PLEASE.

Have a question our ducks are 2 weeks and 4 days old but they still seem like they are kind of afraid of us they seem really skittish especially when we try to pick them up we spend a lot of time with them Are we possibly doing something wrong? I don't want them to be afraid and run from us like they due please help with any kind of advice thank you.

Some ducks are more skittish than others. Just continue to handle them. When you approach their box talk to them before they can see you. That way they won't think you are a predator and you won't startle them.
I did all this and mine are still skittish. Put treats in your hand squat down and get them to eat out of your hand. That way you at least will be able to catch them if you have to examine them.
Good luck.

Aw, and the pure torture for me would be having these cute things that you can hand feed but not pick up. SO close yet so far. Ugh. Hard not to hold cute.

we have 2 that are 6 weeks old and what we do is sit down on the ground with them and they lay on my daughters leg but she's with them alot. It takes spending time with them.

Sit down on the ground with them. Play games on your phone, read a book, just sit still, then put treats around you (the way to a duck's heart is FOOD) and just wait. Before long they will be crawling all over you. You might be able to touch them then.

As I say, mine are still skittish, I just keep working with them. Good luck

Can a female duck tell which eggs are fertilized and which aren't? There are 8 eggs but 4 are in the nest and she sits on them and 4 outside of the nest that she doesn't sit on.
