Hi,
I’m a new here, and my question is this.
I am on day 5 of lockdown with my Pekin eggs, day 30 of total incubation. One of the ducklings hatched early, on day 26, he’s very strong and feisty! Lol
I have have four left in the incubator.
One has externally pipped, but it’s been over 24 hours and he’s not making any progress. I hear him chirping, and every once in a while his beak will pop out of the hole, but he’s getting no where, and when he does move it’s very slow and seems weak.
Would it hurt to take off the piece of loose shell for him? It looks like it’s just sitting on the egg ready to fall off. I know we’re not supposed to help, but it’s driving me crazy!
I’d appreciate any advice! Thanks!

Oh, the other three eggs are just sitting there. Do you think there’s still a chance they could hatch?

Duck chicks will typically rest anywhere from 24 to 30 hours after pipping. Then they resume hatching, which generally takes about an hour to complete the process.
Just make sure the temperature and humidity is adequate. I wouldn't intervene unless it was malpositioned or the humidity was too high and the chick has become stuck.

Thanks for replying. I just am afraid I’ll hurt him. But his chirp seems quieter than it was yesterday too, and not as often.
I’m probably just worrying too much, but I really want this little guy to make it! The first one is three days old now and very lonely I think. I have him on n the house so at least I can give him attention.

try hanging some old CD's or a small mirror for the first one, just to interest it and keep it occupied. my chick loved it!

Ok thanks! I’m sitting here typing next to my incubator, and the chic is actually getting quite loud and pecking away at the shell! (He doesn’t seem to be getting any though) But he must know I’m talking about him! Lol
How long should I keep the other three eggs in there before I give up on them? Hatch day was last Sunday the 28th
