Hey there! I have seen some post about hatching Pekin duck eggs. However, I just think we are still a little nervous since she is our “special one” so it’s better to ask.

Her mama was killed just about 5 days after this egg was laid and this is the only one to make it this far. She started pipping about 30+ hours ago but not making any progress. She got 2 small shell pieces of but the membrane is still all intact. There are no other cracks in the egg either. She has only been in a make shift incubator so we can’t tell humidity. Only temp. Should we help her?

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to BYC! What day of incubation is she on, and can you post a pic?

Thank you for replying!
She is day 29 Pekin. She started the initial pip yesterday afternoon around noon. The 2nd pic here beak is out. But looks like some blood. We moved a SM amour off the hard shell off to try to help. Don’t know if we messed up by doing that. 😳

No problem!
Do you see her making any yawning/chewing motions with her beak?
She looks to be about ready to hatch.

So we tried helping it and it started bleeding. I’m afraid to keep going.
Bleeding is not good. Means shes still absorbing the yolk. In a little bit, you can try peeling a little more as long as theres no blood. She might be getting shrink wrapped, so may need assistance once shes finished absorbing. Keep us updated!

Certaily stop if you see blood, some olive oil on the membrane can help keep from getting the feathers stuck on the membrane. If that happens the duck wont be able to turn and unzip.

Thank you so much for all of your help! We finally got it out! Whew…that was nerve racking. Lol. It’s doing great so far.
