What did you do in the garden today?

Checking my seed stash. Doing a germination test on some old spinach seed. I have a thought. Dangerous I know. If any sprout I may plant in a seed tray and transplant later. Our climate makes spinach difficult. A cold spring slows it down and the end of May it bolts. It is a race to get any to eat. Perhaps transplanting will help.
I try and try, once I had a great crop of spinach. I do a lot better with chard and kale.

When I found out how much more nutrients chard has over spinach, I threw my spinach seeds out! I can keep chard growing through all 4 seasons usually, this year excessively cold so lost it outside, but it grows indoors too. Have 2 growing in 2 gal. pots under grow lights and pull off leaves as needed. (kale too) I think I want to expand my winter indoor growing room, also known as my guest room. Hmmm, have company or healthy easy to harvest food all winter? What to do?! Bye bye company! Lol

Just be careful! I had that problem with my cayenne a few years ago - they didn’t come up after two weeks and I put in new ones and then the first ones came up. 😅 I use a heat mat now to avoid that.
Oh yes, I've had that happen too. Haha! But with honeydew melon.

I just removed the heat mat on Monday. Because so many other seeds had sprouted. I was mistaken, 4 rows of jalapenos. Chile de arbol have all come up. One eggplant. One diamond bell.

I went to miners today, they were sold out of jalapeno seeds. 😂 Out of all the seeds to be sold out of!

Seedlings today

And the stream running out from under the house to the sump pump. You can see the flow going over a literal curb on the left by the waste line.

It has been pumping all day, still pumping now, every time it raises high enough to tip the float valve. I would say it's turning on about every 2 minutes at this point. I'm impressed.

More rain tomorrow!

But you have to eat Chard... To get the benefits. 😂😜

The only way I eat it is with a crazy amount of garlic. I assume you have recipes that make it taste better. I was fooled by Luke from MIgardener saying you can eat it like celery. That was a mistake.

Mixed with lots of other greens in salad, yum. Cooked, drained and wrung out, then topped with garlic powder, seasoned salt, olive oil and a little apple cider vinegar. Also minced and added to soups, can't taste it at all but the nutrients are there. Have also tried using the stems like celery in my potato salad, that was a big no!
